OK, it’s embarrassing, but STI’s are serious...

Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection amongst people under 25.
The National Chlamydia Screening Programme aims to control Chlamydia through early detection by promoting STI screening. Chlamydia generally has no obvious symptoms and can go undetected, however if left untreated it can cause infertility.
At The University of Lincoln, Tom Haughton is the Peer Support worker for the Chlamydia Screening Programme. He is eager to develop student awareness of the importance of being screened regularly. He said;
‘One of the main issues which this programme faces is the embarrassment factor associated with STI’s and screening, however we like to emphasise the need for regular screening as a general health check, yearly or after every partner.’
The Chlamydia Screening Programme provides tests that are free, simple and painless. No examination is necessary and your GP does not need to be told. Getting tested is simple; the University health centre offers free screenings, or if you are not registered there, type your postcode into www.doyouhaveit.co.uk to find the nearest test centre to you. A self-testing kit can also be sent to you through the post by ordering one online or calling 07879630619.
Don’t be embarrassed, be sensible and get tested!
